"It is my honour to present this petition on behalf of TJ and the many Canadians who signed it," Morrison told the House. "When a constituent identifies an issue and rallies the public around it, my job is to make sure their voice is heard right here in this chamber."

Rob continues to make a point of personally tabling petitions originated by Kootenay constituents — bringing Main Street concerns directly to Parliament Hill.

The appointment recognizes Rob's extensive background in national security: a senior RCMP executive career, diplomatic postings covering 17 countries in Central/Southwest Asia and the Middle East, and his subsequent role as Director General with the Treasury Board Secretariat responsible for information-sharing across federal law-enforcement agencies and allied governments.

"In a time of rising foreign interference, cyber threats, and organized crime, Parliament needs members who understand the operational reality of these files," Morrison said. "I'm honoured by the appointment and I take this responsibility very seriously."

On October 20, 2025, he had already taken to the House floor to declare: "In Columbia—Kootenay—Southern Rockies, forestry is not just an industry; it is a way of life. From small family-run mills like Huscroft, Kalesnikoff, ATCO, Porcupine..." — naming the operators by name in the parliamentary record.

Rob continues to push for fair softwood lumber treatment, modernized CUSMA terms, and federal support for transitioning mill communities.

"The volume of signatures speaks for itself," Morrison told the House. "Canadians want to be heard before the rules around products their families have used for decades are rewritten."

"One of the highest paved roads in Canada — the Kootenay Pass — has no cell service. It is still, today, one of the most dangerous gaps in our highway network. People drive that mountain pass every day in every kind of weather, and if something goes wrong, they cannot call for help."

Rob continues to push for federal investment in rural cellular and broadband infrastructure across the Kootenays.
